Michigan Fishing Umbrella, Product Overview
Intro
After quite a few soaking wet sessions on the lake due to heavy downpours, I decided it would be best to get myself some temporary shelter for when I’m sat fishing in the rain. Sat in the rain while you and all your tackle is getting drenched is never really that pleasant, opting for a very large fishing umbrella was one of the best things for fishing I have ever bought.
90inch/2.2 Meters of Underneath Coverage
I chose the largest I could find at the time and one that wasn’t too expensive This is when I came across the Michigan Brand. Initially, I did have the 50inch model and this was fine and did what I needed to a certain degree but it was still a little tight for fitting my fishing tackle, chair and myself underneath.
After the realization that it wasn’t quite sufficient I bought the 90inch one and never looked back. This size of fishing umbrella allows for plenty of room for tackle and chairs so you can get away from the weather when needed. I have measured the underneath end to end circumference, and you will have about 2.2 meters round of sheltered space, so quite alot.
Ideal for all Weather
Having an Umbrella also comes in great use when it’s hot as sitting in the scorching sun can also take its toll over a long session of fishing so basically it’s the perfect all-rounder. Buying a Bivvy is also an option but as you may know these are generally more expensive, but it will provide better protection if needed. You can find them on Amazon if this is the option you want but for me a big umbrella has solved my issue.

Something you Must Know
The 90-inch model is NOT available with the Brolly back shelter.
If you are looking for shelter from above and from the side then you can buy the Michigan umbrella in an 86″ model and just like the 50-inch umbrella I had bought previously it comes with a zip up side shelter as shown in the image.
The side shelter can be pegged to the ground so that you have a half-enclosed umbrella, imitating a tent, just like you would have if you had a Bivvy set up. This would act more like a wind shelter, which is ideal if you have the weather coming in from the side. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be an option for the 90-inch umbrella for some unknown reason, never the less maybe something that interests you if you are looking for a more surrounded shelter set-up.
Price, Strength & Durability
Price
This umbrella was not the most expensive, in fact it was one of the cheapest ones that I could find for around £30 which is not bad for an umbrella of that size, considering some more expensive ones were £70 plus.
Strength
Because of the price, I assumed that it would be quite flimsy and weak and not hold up that well during heavy weather conditions. With that said, I am proven very wrong, as I’ve used this umbrella in all weather including very wild and windy sessions on the bank and it hasn’t collapsed on me yet, holding up well and not leaving me with regret for buying the cheaper option.
It’s safe to say, that for the price it is made surprisingly well, with all the Alloy steel components still intact, along with the polyester waterproof material used for the umbrella canopy itself has kept its shape, so the materials used cannot be that bad in my honest opinion.
The umbrella is lightweight considering its size and when folded away and within its carry bag, the dimensions are around 10 x 160cm so just over 1.5m meters it’s not the most compact when packed away but does the job its intended for very well.
Durability
Weatherproofing
The Polyester material on this umbrella is more than sufficient to keep the rain off without leaks or drips making their way through the material even in heavy rain. After use you can simply shake the water off and pack it away in the carry bag.
The material seems to dry very quickly, so there have been no issues with mould or anything like that. Overall the umbrella is decent quality for the money and does exactly what it’s supposed to do and that’s keep you dry, so there are no real issues with it at all. It keeps you dry and is pretty well made.
Review Conclusion
This brings us to the end of my review of the Michigan Umbrella. I have gone over all the main factors that I think are relevant, so I hope you have received the knowledge you need from this post to help you decide if you are interested in acquiring a fishing Umbrella yourself.
Maybe you are just looking for a fishing umbrella for purposes other than to use while fishing. This is what I have also used mine for. I use it for work, as my job is predominantly outdoors and it comes in incredibly handy for all the same reasons really, allowing me to continue to work in conditions and places I wouldn’t without it.

Jason
Martin great review , however I seem unable to find a measurement for the Michigan’s umbrella’s other than across the top ( arch ) of the umbrella, what’s the actual coverage from point to point under the umbrella.
Many thanks 👍
Martin
Hi Jason,
Apologies for the late reply. The answer to your question is 2.2 meters from point to point, so it offers plenty of space to cover two people with seating and equipment.
If you have Any more questions regarding the umbrella, please let me know.
